UQAM School of Management walks away with first prize at Excalibur, the Canadian University Tournament in Human Resources

On March 19, after two days of competition, UQAM School of Management walked away with first prize at Excalibur, the 25th Canadian University Tournament in Human Resources. This year, 27 universities, including 10 from Quebec, took part in this challenging event.

This team, made up of Geneviève Robert-Huot, Cynthia Rozon-Lacelle, Gabrielle Ste-Marie Isherwood and accompanied by coach Daniel Beaupré, CHRP, bested competitors from seven Canadian provinces with its exceptional analysis of a real business case. The aim of Aeroplan, the organization analyzed this year at the final, was to increase its employees’ level of engagement and be regarded as one of Canada’s 50 top employers. The team won a $3,000 scholarship offered by the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations.

“The Excalibur Tournament gives students a unique opportunity to test their knowledge in the real world of work. It is also the chance for the Ordre to promote the potential of future HR professionals among employers in Quebec and the rest of Canada. We are proud that among all the universities participating in the Tournament, two Quebec universities turned in such a brilliant performance,” commented Florent Francoeur, CHRP, Ordre President and CEO.

HEC Montreal takes second prize
HEC Montreal, made up of Jonathan Couture, Laura Herat, Thomas Micheneau and coached by Gaétane C. Hains, CHRP, took second prize, a $2,250 scholarship offered by Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés.

The Tournament’s third prize, a $1,500 scholarship offered by the British Columbia Human Resources Management Association, was won by the team from the University of British Columbia – Okanagan composed of Hannah Hafso, Gabrielle Descoteaux, Dave Nixon, and accompanied by coach Laurens Breugem.

A credible event that brings together business people, academics and students
The only Tournament organized by practitioners for future professionals, Excalibur is an opportunity for all Canadian universities offering human resources or industrial relations programs to compete in a highly challenging environment. This prestigious event, organized by the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés for the last 25 years, is a unique occasion to bring together students, professors and business people. The five events for which the participants prepared over a number of weeks were assessed by some 30 jury members from major Canadian organizations and the academic community.
